Overground in Bloom is an annual gardening competition where ARL colleagues work tirelessly to create green spaces at our stations. This is a real passion project across the business and in recent years the efforts of our employees have grown to include working with local community groups and schools on these green spaces, creating a real feel of connecting communities and railways.
South Tottenham
Station assistants Azaz Khan and Ray McDonagh have converted a large area of waste land at South Tottenham station into an oasis, with constantly changing and evolving displays of flowers and beds for vegetables throughout the year. The work on the garden has evolved into a number of projects with the local community, including an art project and gardening clubs with local schools.
The South Tottenham team was recognised for their work around opening up new relationships and changing attitudes at the 2023 National Rail Awards, where they took home the ‘Outstanding Personal Contribution’ award.
