“This is a London Overground service to London Bridge”: A special service to help passengers during engineering works
21 March 2025

On Saturday 15 March 2025, Arriva Rail London (ARL) operated a special service into London Bridge to help passengers during planned engineering works.
This special service ran from West Croydon to London Bridge, following the success of the inaugural London Overground service that ran on Easter Sunday in 2024.
ARL colleagues organised services to run every 30 minutes, stopping at all stations on the section of the Windrush line between West Croydon and New Cross Gate. From New Cross Gate, the service continued on to London Bridge instead of its usual route towards Highbury & Islington. This adjustment aimed to provide a convenient alternative for passengers travelling to and from south London into central London.
To ensure a smooth journey for passengers on the day, the ARL team was stationed at London Bridge throughout the duration of the service to help to customers. They were joined by colleagues from Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR), who assisted with the dispatch of trains.
GTR driver instructors also supported by joining ARL drivers in the cab of the train, offering guidance on the route between New Cross Gate and London Bridge.
Gunnar Lindahl, operations director at Arriva Rail London, said: “We are delighted to have provided our passengers with a seamless travel experience to and from south London into the heart of the capital, especially on a day when travel would normally be more challenging. This special service reflects our dedication to offering reliable and convenient travel options, even during planned engineering works. We look forward to exploring similar initiatives in the future.”
