Sound of the Overground: Arriva Rail London launches pilot podcast series for employees

25 February 2025

Arriva Rail London is excited to announce the launch of a six-episode pilot podcast series for employees.

With 1,500 employees spread across 106 miles of track, 82 stations and four depots, the podcast aims to connect colleagues, spotlight their achievements and keep them up to date on the latest company news.

Every month, colleagues will be able to tune in to hear from Bentley Brooks, service delivery manager on the Windrush line, and George Clarke, internal communications lead at headquarters. The duo will invite colleagues from across the business to talk about a range of exciting topics. From debunking common myths to sharing inspiring career progression stories, the podcast will offer an inside look at the dedicated work and remarkable people who keep over 520,000 passengers moving around London every day.

Oli Gant, HR director at Arriva Rail London, said: “We are committed to creating a more connected and engaging workplace, and this podcast series is a testament to that commitment. There is so much that goes into operating a train network that the public often don’t see. By providing a platform for our employees to share their stories and insights, we aim to highlight the incredible work of our colleagues and reinforce our dedication to their growth and development. We believe that by investing in our people, we are investing in the future success of the London Overground.”

The first episode is available on Spotify and Apple Podcasts from Tuesday 25 February 2025.

Meet your hosts:

Bentley Brooks has worked in the transport industry for 35 years. He started out on the London Underground and then joined the former Silverlink train operating company, which later was incorporated into the London Overground network. As he likes to put it: “I’m a Womble, I’ve been underground and overground!”.

Bentley was part of the transition to London Overground in 2007, training colleagues that still work on the network today: “It’s been an amazing journey for me because I’ve been there from the birth of the London Overground and to where we are now.”

In his current role, Bentley manages several station teams on the Windrush line. Outside of work, Bentley has a passion for music, DJing under the name ‘Bentley B’. He has DJ’ed for several events at London Overground stations, never failing to get passengers dancing on their commute!

Unlike Bentley, George Clarke was new to the transport industry upon joining ARL in 2023. As internal communications lead, George is responsible for keeping employees connected, engaged and up to date on the latest business news: “The one thing I love about internal communications is spotlighting the people that you work with day to day. I love creating that connection with people around the business.”

George identified an opportunity to reach colleagues who, given the nature of their roles, may not always have immediate access to written communication: “This is a fantastic platform for us to ensure we’re reaching frontline colleagues, whether it’s our traincare team who keep our fleet spick and span, or a driver on a break between shifts. The way we consume information is changing, and we hope by adapting we can meet the evolving needs of our colleagues.”
