Arriva Rail London colleagues walk from London Euston to Watford Junction for charity
26 April 2022
A group of Arriva Rail London colleagues and Railway Benefit Fund representatives today walked the length of the London Euston to Watford Junction London Overground route, raising money for the charity’s annual appeal, Railway Family Week.
The group walked between the 19 London Overground stations on the route, covering approximately 20 miles or 32 kilometres in total. They stopped in at stations for muchneeded refreshments and encouragement from colleagues along the way, and completed the walk in just under 11 hours.
Arriva Rail London customer hosts Andrew Hallisey, Liam Nixon and Neha Patel, who are based at Hatch End station, came up with the concept of the charity walk. With annual community days, marathons and long distance bike rides raising money for charities already under their belts, the team set their sights on a new challenge and encouraged their colleagues to get involved.
“Having recently won a Heart of Gold Award, we looked into the work Railway Benefit Fund does to support the railway family and decided we wanted to give back to them. We hope the money we have raised helps them to reach their fundraising goal of £50,000, so they can continue providing assistance to railway colleagues past and present,” explained Andrew Hallisey, customer host at Hatch End station.
Faye Maloney, digital engagement officer at Railway Benefit Fund, who joined the group for part of the walk, said: “Congratulations to the Arriva Rail London team for taking on this challenge for Railway Family Week. Their fundraising means so much to Railway Benefit Fund at a time when we are seeing such high demand for our services. Well done all!”
The Railway Benefit Fund is a UK charity solely dedicated to supporting current, retired and former railway employees and their families through tough times. Railway Family Week is an annual fundraising campaign designed to bring the entire rail industry together while raising money for the charity.
